Utilizing Music
Many individuals with Williams syndrome have a great ability to acquire, retain, and recall music very quickly. Although it is still unclear, researchers suggest that this remarkable musical capacity could be the result of brain asymmetry that may link preserved auditory pattern perception and musical processing (Lenhoff et al., 1997). Regardless, affinity for music is a common characteristic of individuals with Williams syndrome. With this in mind, utilizing music in the classroom can be an effective strategy to create a supportive learning environment for students with WS.
